Chris and I headed to Rex Hospital bright and early on Wed. 5/1. His mom was home with the boys. It was a little drizzly as we walked into the hospital. Here's one last shot of Stella in my large stomach.
We were asked to be at the hospital at 7:30 in the morning for the c-section which was scheduled for 9:30. I had already had my blood work done the day before, so all I had to do was change and be hooked up to an IV. Then we waited. We met with the cord blood donation bank as well. The nurses name was Trish and she was the one who took care of me when I first got to the hospital while pregnant with Austin three years ago.
They wheeled me into the operating room around 9:35. The spinal was not bad at all and soon I was numb and could not move at all. Such an odd feeling. Dr. Groff delivered Stella. She was the same person that delivered Hunter. She is FAST! Way faster then the doctor who delivered Austin.
Stella arrive at 9:57am, just about 20 minutes of me entering the operating room. She was 7lbs 6oz, 21 inches long, with a head circumference of 33 cm.
Here are two videos of her within the first few minutes of her life:
***Well they would be here if they would upload...will try again later***
I was brought into the recovery room around 10:30 and got to hold her and feed her right away. I could not believe how fast and easy the c-section was and I was thankful that I didn't feel any pain like I did with Austin.
They gave her her first bath right in my recovery room. She was not a fan.
We were wheeled down to my postpartum room around 11:30.
After a bit Chris left to go eat lunch at home, get Austin and Debby, pick up Hunter from school and bring them to meet their sister and granddaughter.
Here are some pictures I took of her during the first day.
She was so easy going...just nursed and slept all day. No crying.
Hunter was so excited to meet her. Austin was a little shy and apprehensive, but he was happy to get his big brother shirt and stuffed Toad character from Mario.
Daddy got to change her first dirty diaper. In fact, I don't think I changed her diaper for the first two days. Someone was always there when it happened and just did it for me. The boys thought it was disgusting, but of course they watched.
Zero days old...this picture kind of looks like a mug shot. Hopefully she'll never have a real one.
Stella with her Stella baby doll dressed as a lady bug.
Dr. Meres coming to check on her.
Our other visitors of the day, Jay and Emily, came to check out their future daughter in-law.
I sat up with my legs dangling over the bed by early evening and by 10pm they had me up and walking. It wasn't so bad. Stella had a pretty eventful night of nursing. I think I finally got some sleep around 4am only to be woken up at 5am to have blood drawn.
I have a ton more pictures to follow. Hoping to get them all posted this weekend.
