In the time it took me to fill two large buckets of berries Hunter had picked ten...yes...ten! He was proud of his ten berries though. He seemed to spend most of the time either eating berries or throwing the mushy ones.
He had some homemade strawberry ice cream when he was done picking.
At home with all of our berries...
I needed to use these up quickly because of all the rain, so I started washing strawberries for strawberry bread and strawberry pie. We also ate a ton! I used up one huge basket of berries...I still have two large buckets and one smaller basket to clean and freeze...or eat.
The boys had fun eating them with reddi whip...
Hunter put some into his mouth on his own and had so much he couldn't swallow it all.
Two loaves of strawberry bread.
Strawberry pie!
As I was trying to finish up the bread and the pie I opened the pantry door to put something away. Our sugar canister got pulled off the shelf and came tumbling down...spilling about 2-3 pound of sugar all over the kitchen floor and pantry shelves. You know the saying...don't cry over spilled milk...well...that does not pertain to sugar. I cried. And, I think you would too if you had sugar all over your kitchen floor.
That was the start to a pretty crappy evening...Austin was throwing a fit and insisted I put him to bed. Vinegar fell out of the pantry and got all over the floor too. Now I have a bunch of strawberries to go clean or do something with. I kind of feeling like throwing them out the door and pretending we never went strawberry picking. At least I get strawberry pie for breakfast!
I probably would have cried about the sugar, too. I've done that with a little bit of sugar and it was hard to clean up.
ReplyDeleteSave me some jam! We'll be up at some point in the summer. :)
