Birthday Weekend!

Friday, Feb. 8th:

Austin has been obsessed with the Wii U, I have to hide the controller from him.

I spent the day making cupcakes for Hunter's party.  I found two homemade recipes that said they were good for cupcakes.  I started with chocolate and they were so good that I had to make a second batch.

I am probably one of the messiest bakers around.  Here's the start of my mess.

One batch of the chocolate cupcakes cooling.  The white in the middle is a cream cheese/chocolate chip mixture.  I'll include the recipe later.

My cute taste testers...I had them use a fork because they were still a little warm and pretty messy.

Taking a little break from cupcake making/eating.

I found them cuddled together on the couch with the Wii U remote that I had hidden.

The white cupcakes with buttercream frosting.  There were 3 1/2 dozen white and 4 dozen chocolate.

Recipe for Chocolate Cupcakes:
(Makes 24)...my first batch made 24 full sized cupcakes, the 2nd batch made 24, but they did not rise as high.

8 oz. pkg. cream cheese                               1/4 c. cocoa
1 egg                                                            1 tsp. baking soda
1/3 c. sugar                                                  1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp salt                                                   1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chocolate chips                                      1 tsp vinegar
1 1/2 c. flour                                                 1/3 c. oil
1 c. sugar                                                     1 c. water

Beat cream cheese, egg, 1/3 cup sugar and 1/8 teaspoon salt together; stir in chocolate chips.  In another bowl combine flour, 1 cup sugar, cocoa, baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt.  Beat vanilla, vinegar, oil and water.  Fill cups 1/3 with chocolate batter; top with heaping teaspoon of cream cheese mixture and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar on top.  Bake at 305 for 20-30 minutes.

Saturday, 2/9:

Austin all dressed up for the party, showing off his shoes.

We held the party at the life and science museum in Durham.  We had an hour in the party room and then toured through the museum until it closed at 5pm.  It was a beautiful day and we had lots of great friends come out to help us celebrate Hunter's 7th birthday.

Captain Underpants "Potty" favors:

They had to fill up their "barf" bags with all the favors.

3D Hypno Rings...

Woopie Cushions...

Water pistols, but I forgot to take a picture of them...

Fart putty...

The line up of the favors.

Hunter's cupcakes.

All the kids had to find their capes.

The underwear fling...

Which quickly turned into an underwear battle/fight/war, whatever you want to call it...Hunter said that was one of the best parts of his day.

Braden, Captain Ella, and Captain Andrew

Captain Savannah and Captain Gabby

The kids could change their name using Professor Poopypant's name changing chart.  Hunter's name was Cheeseball Wafflemouth.

Chris and his Aunt Jennifer.

Holly and Chris

Someone was eyeing the cupcakes!

Hunter's cousin, Maddie

Changing their names...

Checking out some bugs.

I've included a bunch of Hunter blowing out his candles, because you can see Austin next to him trying to blow them out too.  His face is pretty funny.

And these are just too funny...the first two shots were "normal" ones, yet Hunter is making a weird face.

These two shots were supposed to be a silly pose.

The kids dug into their goodie bags...

Austin trying to take down Cole.

The woopie cushions were too loud.

We all headed to different parts of the museum.  A big group of the party friends went to the play area first.  It was funny watching the group of red capes running around together.

Next stop was the farm animals...

Austin found the cow poop.

Off to the dinosaur trail...

Hunting for dinosaurs.

Digging for fossils.

Austin's tantrum.

Walking to see the wild life.

Checking out the bear...one was close enough to see without the camera, but they all wanted to use it anyway.  We also stopped to see the red wolves and lemurs.

Sail boats.

Running through the mist.

Insect and butterfly exhibit.

We had about 30 minutes inside before the museum closed.

We headed home after the museum closed, ate dinner (thanks to all the leftover pizza), and then Hunter opened his gifts.

Later, Hunter, Austin, and MooMa watched a new 3D movie.

MooMa got Hunter a xylophone.  He is taking an elective in school this quarter called xylophone: high and low.  He loves it!

We were all so tired, but had a great day!

Sunday, Feb. 10th:

Today Chris had to work on fixing the cable that he cut while putting in the quarter round last weekend.  That took A LOT longer then we thought it would.  But, our cable upstairs is working again.

Two of Hunter's friends, Colby and Brady, came over to play.  They had missed the party yesterday by going to the wrong museum.  They all had a great time today.

They watched part of a 3D movie.

This afternoon the bunk beds arrived!  They are AWESOME!!  They were built by Jody Price.  Let me know if you want his contact information if you need something built.  He did a great job.  He is also building our wall unit for the playroom and we should have that in a few weeks.

Austin was INSISTING on sleeping on the top bunk, which I do not want...so I made the bottom bunk into a fort and he is now all excited about sleeping down there.

I'll take a better picture later when the beds are made up.  Hopefully we'll get new bedding soon!
