At the time I had a feeling I should call her vet, but figured she would probably just throw it up. After a few days nothing happened...until yesterday!
So, I took her into a 24 hour emergency vet hospital. They ran blood tests and did a few x-rays. The x-ray ruled out a blockage, which was good. But the blood tests showed extremely high levels pointing towards liver disease and pancreatitis. She was admitted overnight, given IV fluids for severe dehydration, pain meds to prevent her from going into shock from the pain in her abdomen, and a few other medications.
This morning they ran a test which confirmed pancreatitis and since the liver and pancreas are right on top of each other that would explain the extreme high levels pointing towards liver disease. Fortunately, both the pancreas and liver and able to rejuvenate if found early enough. We will not know the extent of the damage to either organ until they do more blood work tomorrow. We are hoping her levels are dropping back down to normal after this treatment. She will be given a low fat diet for awhile and some medications possibly.
The cause of the pancreatitis was most likely from the steak...or obscene amount of fat on the steak. Her body could not handle it. I should have trusted my gut and induced vomiting after she inhaled the steak in the first place. Expensive lesson learned! The vet said, "and, no more fatty steak for Winnie." Ummm, really...definitely not our intention to have her eat a huge piece of fat!
I slept from about 5:30am to 7:30am, so I am just exhausted. Chris stayed home to help with Austin. He is, thankfully, much better.
Here he is trying on an assortment of shoes:
Our yummy dinner tonight...pork with fresh tomatoes and feta cheese, asparagus, and butternut squash risotto.
It was FREEZING at Hunter's t-ball practice so we had to sit out in the field in the sun!
I love the expression on Hunter's face as he gets the ground ball.
This picture is bad, but his outfit is so funny. His pants are too loose around the waist so they are rolled, which makes them short...and his jacket is too short and tight around the head.
He was inching out very slowly trying to get out on to the field.
Hunter and Lucas going for the ball.
Playing first base
His coach has been very helpful and great with the kids!
Running to first base...this was his first time running the bases and he didn't quite understand it at first. Pretty funny to watch.
Waiting on base to run to second.
Headed back home!
