Trail Races, Playgrounds, and Boats

This morning I woke up bright and early to head out for a trail race being put on by a local high school.  Last night we received an email from the person in charge stating that the terrain would have water, mud, and long grass.  I had a small panic attack and then set out two cans of bug spray to bring for the race.  (fear of ticks for those who do not know)

Here we are before the 1st Annual MacNair Farm 10k.  (Emily, Jenny, Becky, and me)

Athens Drive High School set up the race and were able to use the property of MacNair Farms.  (a horse farm on close to 300 acres).  There was a 5k and 10k.  We did the 10k...it was challenging, but a great race.  We ran through the fields, into the woods, and through water.  There was a decent amount of mud...I thought I was going to lose my right sneaker as my foot went down to my ankle in mud.  There were A LOT of hills.  However, the scenery was beautiful...and there were horses out running too.

Here we are after the race...we don't look it, but we were pretty muddy.

Here's my dirty sneaker/leg to prove it.

Once I was home and showered, Chris took off to go help a friend move into a new house.  Hunter went to Kerr Lake with his friends, Brady and Colby.  So, that left me and Austin to play and run errands.  First we went for a walk.

He realized he needed his friend, Ella, in the wagon...so we had to turn around and head to her house even though I told him she was not home.  He had to check on his own anyway.  Then he proceeded to soak himself with their garden hose.  Headed home he started sprinting down the street towards our house.  I realized quickly that I could not keep up...he's pretty fast!

We went to a few stores and then stopped at a playground for toddlers.

That didn't last long...he sprinted over to the "big" playground.

He slid through a wet spot on the slide so I had to take his pants off.  His sneakers kept slowing him down, so I told him to lift his feet a little.  Before I snapped the photo he had both legs way high up in the air.

Colby, Hunter, and Brady out on the lake.  Now Hunter is sleeping over at their house...they had a great time at the lake and Hunter said the boat went really fast.

After the playground we went to do our weekly grocery shopping.  Today I was reminded of why I do NOT take a 2 year old to the grocery store.  He had to "help" with everything...putting the produce in bags, adding random items to the cart, pushing the cart by himself, etc...I had to carry him out of the store kicking and screaming.  Fun times!

Since we missed his nap (and since he slept until close to 10am this morning) I let him watch the Lorax.

Busy day...Austin's in bed and that is where I am headed!
